Helmut Dittmann (1931–2000), abstract composition, paint on paper, dated 26.11.1989 in the artist's hand lower right. This work bears the official estate stamp on the reverse, confirming its authenticity as part of the artist's estate. Dittmann was a Berlin-Charlottenburg artist who studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Berlin and was appointed master student under Prof. Hans Uhlmann in 1956. He received two scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin for residencies at the Villa Serpentara in Olévano Romano, Italy. His work spans painting, graphic art, collage and ceramic sculpture, and was shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. This confident and visually commanding abstract work presents rhythmic, interlocking forms in a palette of steel blue, grey, black, burgundy and warm ochre, filling the entire picture surface with movement and depth. The composition has a strong vertical impulse, drawing the eye upward through densely layered marks and colour fields of remarkable tonal range. This work is sold unframed.
