Henri Matisse The Snail (L'escargot) Abstract Screen Print Artwork, Tate Gallery

Chairish

$3,000

Fabulous abstract screen print artwork of Henri Matisse's 1953 masterpiece, The Snail (L'escargot). Screen printed by hand in the UK by Artizan Editions and published by Tate Galleries in the UK. In an unnumbered limited edition. The original Snail artwork is a famous "cut-out" (gouaches découpées) created from colored paper shapes arranged on a large canvas. It was created during the last years of Matisse's life while he was largely confined to his bed or wheelchair in Nice, France. The art subject of this piece is a snail, distilled entirely into an abstract form, while it appears to be a random configuration of blocks, Matisse arranged the colored paper shapes in a deliberate spiral pattern. This geometric spiral directly mimics the concentric unrolling pattern found on a natural snail shell. The artwork features vibrant, abstract shapes on an orange background, exploring themes of color, form, and composition. The color palette is a bold mix of vibrant, contrasting colors set against neutral backgrounds. The featured colors are orange, teal, magenta, bright pink, blue, lime green, golden yellow, black, and berry. The bottom border of the white gallery-style mat displays the artist's name and the institution in clean, spaced, black capital letters reading "Henri Matisse. Tate" The original masterpiece is housed in the permanent collection of the Tate Modern in London. The art print is protected under plexiglass and housed in a slim, minimalist matte-black finish wood frame with a thin profile, creating a modern contrast against the classic, vibrant tones of the artwork. This art print is a breathtaking piece of collectible art. Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a revolutionary French visual artist. Alongside Pablo Picasso, he is widely regarded as one of the twin pillars of 20th-century Modern Art.
