A hand-colored portrait of Henry Prince of Wales, Son of James, engraved and etched by the Dutch master of portraits Jacobus Houbraken (1698-1780) after a painting by Isaac Oliver (1565-1617), who was a painter in King James I's court after the death of Elizabeth I. It was included in Thomas Birch's (1705-1766) publication 'The Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain', which was published by I & P Knapton in London in 1738-1742. Henry Frederick (1594-1612), the Prince of Wales was the oldest son of King James VI and I and and his wife Anne of Denmark. He was the heir to the thrones on England and Scotland. However, he died of typhoid fever at the age of 18. Henry's armor, sword and spears adorn the area around his portrait. A jousting match is depicted beneath the portrait. The print is presented in an antiqued silver-colored wood frame with a dark grey outer mat and a gold-colored inner mat. The print is in very good condition. There are frame scratches and abrasions.
