Horace Armistead (1898-1980) was a noted New York costume and set designer responsible for working on many important New York City productions. This unframed oil on canvas depicts a Neo-Classical scene. The painting is signed and dated 1937 lower right corner. It is also titled “Reclining Nude 1936” on the stretcher. The painting has surface grime, cracquelure and some minor paint loss. There is an old patch repair to the back and likely corresponding inpainting in front. Please see the detailed photos
