Horace Armistead (1898-1980) was a noted New York costume and set designer responsible for working on many important New York City productions. This unframed oil on canvas depicts a Neo-Classical scene. The painting is signed and dated 1937 lower right corner. It is also titled “Reclining Nude 1936” on the stretcher.
