Watercolor and acrylic painting of one of the most famous scenes of Japan, the magnificent vermillion torii which seems to float at high tide just off Miyajima Island. I painted this scene at sunset, during high tide, when the gate really seems to glow in the evening light. The mountains go on forever in the distance. In the foreground you see the traditional Japanese houses stacked up on the hill.
