This is a beautiful Antique Etching depicting "La Grande Bergère" (The Large Shepherdess) by celebrated French Barbizon artist Jean-François Millet (1814-1875). One of Millet's best-known etchings, this wonderful composition beautifully captures the quiet dignity of rural life that made the artist one of the most influential figures of the Barbizon School. This impression has a wonderfully rich, crisp image with a strong plate mark and generous margins. It bears the artist's signature within the plate and was acquired as part of a collection of antique French etchings. I have not been able to determine the exact date or state of this impression, so I encourage interested buyers to examine the photographs carefully and make their own determination.
