Jean-Michel Basquiat, Now's the Time, 1985/2021 (Framed) Monte Carlo 300gsm watercolour paper. This premium paper is made on a traditional cylinder mould machine by St Cuthbert's Mill in Somerset where they have been making fine papers on the same site since the 1700's. They are the only commercial paper mill in England to still use this paper-making process. 50 x 50 cm (Paper size) 52 x 52 cm (Framed) Cut from a large plywood disk, 'Now's the Time' mimics a vinyl pressing of the jazz legend Charlie Parker's album of the same name. Jean-Michel Basquiat paid homage to the musician as he was also an uncompromising black artist. Parker was recognised for his development of the contemporary jazz variant bebop, that was characterised by an accomplished technique and a fast tempo. Copyright Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
