Jean-Michel Papillon - Lily Of France - Etching - Late 18th-Century

Chairish

$291

Lily of France is an original Modern artwork realized in the late 18th Century. Original B/W etching on paper. Signed on plate on the lower right corner: Papillon f\. Mint conditions. Lily of France is an excellent xylograph that depicts the herald and the symbol of France: the white lily on an oval shield. The shield is supported by two female figures with two animals on the side: a rooster and a lion. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
