Signed lower left, in graphite, 'Carl Fischer' (Danish, 1887-1962) and created created 1935. Watermarked 'Ingres Van Gelder Zonen' along right edge. Carl Fischer first studied under Viggo Johansen (1907-12) and, subsequently, in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. He was the recipient of several scholarships, including the prestigious Akademie Scholarship (1917) which allowed him to further his studies abroad for two years. Over the course of a long career Carl Fischer exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. Throughout his lifetime, he was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Danish Academy of Art's fall invitational exhibition at the Charlottenborg Gallery. Reference: E.
