El Capitan is found on the north side of the Yosemite Valley near its western-most end, meaning the sun is most prominent at the end of the day. At 3,000 feet above the valley floor, it is 2.5 times as high as the Empire State Building, and 3 times as high as the Eiffel Tower. Crowther takes the perspective of El Capitan from the valley floor, where the peak of the El Capitan ridge towers above her. Pine trees and firs loom high, flanking the monolithic rock formation.
