Artist Biography: John Axton (born 1947) is an American painter and printmaker best known for his meditative landscapes and architecturally inspired compositions. His work emphasizes the subtle interaction of light, form, and mood, recalling elements of Luminism and Minimalism. Axton studied at Southern Illinois University and has exhibited widely throughout the United States. His works are held in several museum collections, including: The Pratt Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo, NY), the Denver Art Museum (Denver, CO), the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio, TX), and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philadelphia, PA).
