Jorleif Uthaug (Norwegian, 1911-1990) 1956 lithograph titled "To Mennesker" (Two People), edition 18/20. Framed under glass Jorleif Uthaug was an important mid-century modern illustrator, printmaker and sculptor born in 1911 near Trondhjem. He studied privately with HK Stabell and later (1945-1947) at the Norwegian Academy of Art with Jean Heiberg. Uthaug visited Paris in 1953 and became interested in and influenced by Picasso, Braque and Henry Moore. He made his debut as an artist in 1948 at the Trondheim Art Association and had his first solo exhibition in 1949 at Galleri Per in Oslo. He also studied metallurgy and welding at the Swedish Institute of Technology (1960–1961). Uthaug produced about 18 prints, mostly lithographs between 1947 and 1958 on a press in the basement of his apartment in Oslo, perhaps including the one featured here.
