This artwork titled "Greetziel, North Sea, Germany" c.1950 is a color etching on Wove paper by noted Austrian artist Josef Eidenberger, 1899-1991. It is hand signed and inscribed "The Collection of Henry Mory and Anne Hemny, May 1975" in pencil by the artist. Published/printed by Graphics International, Austria. The plate mark (image) size is 9.25 x 12.5 inches, sheet size is 13.75 x 19.35 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the artist. Josef Eidenberger was born in 1899 in the little town of Goisern, Austria,he began his artistic career as a landscape painter. In 1923 he enrolled in the famed Graphic Academy of Art in Vienna and studied under Professor Alfred Cossman. His recognized talent brought him many commissions from city officials and members of the business communities throughout Europe, especially in Austria and Germany. In 1973 after visiting the United States for the first time he created a series of California etchings. In 1974 he was commissioned to do a series of color etchings of Williamsburg, Va. in commemoration of the United States Bicentennial celebration. During his travels throughout the U.S. the same year he was once again commissioned to do etchings of the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City and scenes of the East and West Coast. In December of 1977, the Austrian government awarded Josef Eidenberger, the honorary title of professor of the art in appreciation for his contribution to the advancement of fine art. His work is held in private and corporate collections throughout the world. Exhibitions of his work are too numerous to be listed.
