Up for sale a Kellyann Monaghan Urban monochromatic original Monotype print entitled "Skylight II" signed by the artist. artist proof, 2001. "A monotype is a unique, one-of-a-kind printmaking technique that results in a single, original image. An artist (such as Kellyann Monaghan) applies ink or paint to a smooth, non-absorbent surface, like glass, metal, or plexiglass. The artist then presses the plate against paper to transfer the image. Because each monotype is hand-executed and unique, it can't be replicated like other printmaking techniques. The pigment left on the plate is usually not enough to make another print, and any subsequent prints will differ from the original." Monotypes are considered a painterly form of print making which you can clearly see soft lines and shapes of Skylight II by Monaghan. This original monotype print depicts the rooftop of a New York building on a dark and moody evening. The prominent feature on the rooftop and in the image is the large pyramidal skylight shining amidst the gloom. The pyramid shape of course recalls the great pyramids of Egypt and here is the great pyramid of New York City glowing prominently in the night sky. Framed this monotype print by Kellyann Monaghan measures 20" x 20" and sight (the print) measures 9.75" x 9.5". The monotype has been professionally framed in a wide (1.5") charcoal grey frame with a lighter gray matte that sets off quite well the black of the monotype. Excellent condition.
