This 32”x36” oil painting was done en plein air at a park at the water’s edge in Berkeley. I love this location to paint for its proximity to San Francisco Bay, boats, hills and weather. The light comes from the Golden Gate late in the day. The oil on canvas piece captures a vibrant Bay Area scene with exceptional texture and light. This expressive Post-Impressionist style utilizes thick impasto and bold, deliberate brushwork • Palette: The composition contrasts sun-drenched, textural earth tones (ochre, burnt sienna, deep olive) with intensely saturated turquoise and sapphire blues of the water. Oils on canvas is my favorite way to try to capture the moment.
