Large 19th C. Academy Drawing Presented In A Period Empire Frame

Chairish

$5,750

A large 19th century British charcoal or graphite academy style drawing, attributed to Sir William Boxall, RA (1800–1879), depicts a classical male figure—likely Apollo or mythological youth. The nude, draped figure stands in contrapposto against a rocky background, one arm extended in an heroic gesture. Boxall, a respected portraitist who entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1819, became a full RA in 1863, and later served as Director of the National Gallery, London (from 1866). The piece is presented in an exceptional French Empire-style frame (31½ × 38" H).
