Here is an exquisite antique / vintage contemporary oil painting of the chestnut racehorse ‘Sweet Solera’ in a muted landscape, painted by sporting artist Juliet McLeod (British, 1917-1982). The piece is signed and dated 1961 in the lower left corner. This is a large, stately painting finished in an ornate gesso frame, commanding a special place above a large fireplace mantle, dining room or in a foyer entry of an equestrian-inspired home. Sweet Solera was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred owned by Mrs. Magnus Castello. The filly won six races, including the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and Oaks at Epsom. Sweet Solera was a Timeform top-rated European three-year-old filly. Juliet McLeod was an equestrian painter, illustrator and writer that attended L’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, studying alongside renowned equestrian painter Lynwood Palmer. · 36” wide x 31.5” tall framed size; 29” wide x 24.5” tall artwork size · Vintage condition: Some craquelure and paint lifting, including to edges of canvas with areas of unstable paint and loss; Some marks and dirt, including a dark diagonal line visible upper center; some gesso losses and distressing to frame. · ARR may apply for buyers outside of the USA · Professionally packaged and insured for peace of mind.
