Antique Victorian Nautical Seascape Oil Painting on Canvas FD Briscoe A large and impressive painting In good original condition showing some typical age-appropriate wear from normal use, it does have some tears and punctures along with some losses to its frame. Please see photos for precise condition 43" highest 63" widest 6" deepest with a sight of 29.5" high 49.5" wide Biography of Franklin Dullin BRISCOE (1844-1903) Birth place: Baltimore, MD Death place: Phila., PA Addresses: Phila., PA (1848-on) Profession: Marine, history, and portrait painter Studied: Edward Moran, 1860; travel to Europe. Exhibited: PAFA, 1863, 1885; Brooklyn AA, 1873; Philadelphia Centennial, 1876 Comments: A well-known and successful marine painter of the last quarter of the 19th century, Briscoe made many extended ocean voyages where he found his subject ó the ocean and its ships in all types of weather. In 1885, he also painted a major historical mural, "The Battle of Gettysburg," which was 13 feet tall by 230 feet long, in ten panels (location unknown).
