A beautifully executed late 19th to early 20th century Spanish oil on canvas depicting a lively tavern interior in the style of the celebrated Flemish master David Teniers the Younger (1610–1690). The scene features peasants gathered around a table smoking pipes, drinking, and socializing beside a glowing hearth—a classic Dutch Golden Age genre subject. The reverse retains original labels from Hijos de J. Cano, Madrid, one of Spain’s most respected fine art framers and restorers, as well as an old Museo Nacional del Prado label. These labels strongly suggest the painting was created in Madrid as an academic museum copy or interpretation after a work in the Prado’s renowned collection of Flemish paintings. The Prado holds numerous original Teniers works and historic copies of his celebrated tavern scenes.
