This is an original oil painting, signed by the artist - Karl Neumann. He was known for painting seascapes, beaches and barn scenes, similar to this. There is beautiful texture showing in the painting of the crashing waves and the long grass along the beach giving the whole painting a feeling of movement. The frame is made of oak with light gold gilt that has probably worn down over time. On the back there is a name of Dr. Kaplan and a date of 8/11/75, which I can assume is when it was commissioned for Dr. Melvin Kaplan of UCLA Medical Center in LA, based on where the painting was last purchased from. Karl Neumann was born and lived in Germany, 1891 and lived there to his death in 1985. The painting measured approximately 9.5x6.5 inches and the frame is just under 17 x 15 inches
