Berthon was a disciple of Eugène Grasset as well as a friend and unabashed admirer. While he adopted all the principles that he learned from the master, he executed them with his own personal flair. Representations of pale pre-Raphaelite women in his signature palette of muted yellows, greens and browns, were characteristics of his work. Although he died very young, the relatively few lithographs he produced belong to the best of the French Art Nouveau movement. Printed by Imprimerie Chaix, Paris.
