Title: Set of Two Saint-Cloud Garden Fountain Engravings by Baltard, Paris, 1803 : This elegant pair of original antique copperplate engravings depicts two picturesque views of the celebrated fountains in the gardens of the Château de Saint-Cloud. One plate presents the principal fountain from the head of the cascade, while the companion engraving offers a second perspective along a tree-lined avenue with rhythmic fountains leading toward the palace grounds. Together they beautifully capture the symmetry, grandeur, and refined landscape design of one of France's most magnificent royal gardens. The Château de Saint-Cloud was among the most prestigious royal residences of France, serving the Bourbon monarchy before becoming one of Napoleon Bonaparte's favored palaces. Its formal gardens, extensive fountains, and monumental avenues ranked among the finest examples of French landscape architecture until the palace was destroyed during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870. The engravings were created by the distinguished French architect and engraver Louis-Pierre Baltard (1764–1846) and published in Paris in 1803 as part of the celebrated Napoleonic-era publication Paris et ses Monuments, mesurés, dessinés et gravés. This landmark work documented France's architectural and landscape heritage through meticulously engraved copperplates of exceptional artistic and technical quality. As a matching pair, these engravings form an attractive decorative set while preserving an important visual record of one of France's lost royal estates. They are ideal for collectors of French architecture, historic gardens, Grand Tour prints, and antique decorative engravings. These are original antique engravings printed in 1803 and not later reproductions. They are offered unframed. Any framed images shown are for presentation purposes only.
