Marcel GENAY (Le Havre 1928 - Biarritz 1993) Notre-Dame-de-Paris Fantastic surrealist lithograph in two colors Signed in pencil lower right 1970s Our print represents a vision halfway between fantasy and surrealism with the presence of "chimeras", dear to the artist in the sky of our landscape. We immediately recognize Notre-Dame-de-Paris and its surroundings with the famous second-hand booksellers on the banks of the Seine: two typically Parisian symbols which place us directly in the French capital. Born in Le Havre in 1928, Marcel Genay has been drawing since childhood and was trained by Camille Hilaire and Claude Weisbuch in 1949, the latter guiding him into the world of graphic arts. Our artist approaches the world of the Marvelous and the Fantastic from 1966. He lived and worked in Biarritz from 1967 until his death in 1993, but traveled the world: his works were then exhibited in galleries on four continents. Numerous stays in Sweden, where he exhibited regularly, brought richness and detail to his compositions. Marcel Genay was the illustrator of a collection by the famous poet Louis Guillaume. Subjects of television reports and numerous articles in the national and regional press as well as an article in the science fiction magazine “Horizons du Fantastique”, Marcel Genay's poems also inspire many artists. One of his poems was also chosen to appear in the Anthology of Contemporary Poets. His works today belong to numerous collections, in those of galleries and personalities.
