Matted Art Deco 1937 French Fashion Pochoir

Chairish

$155

This is matted French 1937 fashion pochoir that we recently purchased in Paris. Pochoir is a stencil-based printing technique that was popular is Paris in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. It was used by fashion and architectural illustrators who hand colored, or hand illustrated their prints. The manual aspect of pochoir has been both one of its most valuable attributes and one of its greatest failures as a printing technique. It is both labor and time consuming, making it an expensive and slow process. As a result, this technique was short lived and was replaced by more modern lithography. Pochoirs have become rare and highly collectible with the passage of time. According to the descriptive text, this fashion design features both the front and rear view of an elegant dress perfect for an afternoon wear. The dress is done in a wool crepe in the style of a "coat dress". The unusual wide white half lapel (revers) is balanced. by a corsage on the other side. Note the sleeve styles, the button piping, and, of course, the hat. This is perfect for today's fashionista. The print is in excellent, clean condition. 8 x 12.5 inches in size. Comes matted in a 16 x 20 inch custom white mat ready for a standard size frame. See companion fashion designs offered in our shop.
