Meg den Hartog (b. December 30, 1952) is a Dutch painter based in Houten, known for her romantic-realistic style and exceptional attention to detail. Growing up in a creative family, Meg was exposed to the world of art from a young age. After studying under Poen de Wijs from 2005 to 2014, Meg mastered the "stricheltechnik" technique—a method of building up layers with fine strokes to create highly realistic imagery. While de Wijs focused on magical realism, Meg developed her own style, emphasizing the romantic realism of human figures and animals. She is particularly known for her sensitive portraits, capturing both the physical likeness and the personality of her subjects. In addition to human figures, Meg specializes in painting fabrics such as lace, silk, and handkerchiefs, often incorporating elements like gold leaf, palladium, and diamond dust into her works. She also makes her own paint from Lapis Lazuli, using its rich blue color to enhance her paintings. Her attention to detail and emotional depth are hallmarks of her distinctive approach to realism.Meg den Hartog is represented by several prominent galleries, including Galerie De Twee Pauwen (The Hague), Galerie Pictura (Bergen), Kunstgalerie Staphorsius (Westzaan), Galerie de Vreugd en Hendriks (Zandvoort), and Galerie Art Fusion (Amsterdam), and her work is held in the Musiom collection in Amersfoort.
