“Men Of Matthew” A Geometric Abstract By Northwest Artist Warren A. Wolf

Chairish

$750

It’s time to bury the so-last-century idea that folks are either "right-brained,” i.e., naturally creative, or (boringly) "left-brained," always operating logically. And here’s just the guy to do it. Warren A. Wolf (1924-2003) put out abstract and often geometric works like this one—frequently going for three dimensionality with the addition of marble dust to rough up his paint. And, like many artists in need of a steady income, he taught. In fact, he was teaching art at Medford High School in Oregon when this was painted. Yet, he also administered. As the dean of art school at State University College in Buffalo, New York; dean of Moore College of Art in Philadelphia (1965–1971) and dean of the Portland Museum Art School (1973–1977), he could balance a budget, oversee departments, appease trustees, and see that student and teacher complaints got resolved. What we might call these days, a “Renaissance Man.”
