Mexican Devotional Nicho With Black Curled & Pressed Tin Frame

Chairish

$325

This vintage Mexican nicho shrine is a mixed-media devotional work assembled from metal, paper, and applied decorative elements including sequins, metallic trim, and fabric. Pieces like this were traditionally created for private use, often assembled in the home rather than a formal workshop, resulting in subtle variations in scale, framing, and construction. While devotional in origin, works of this kind are now widely collected for their graphic presence, material texture, and strong architectural silhouettes. The layered surfaces and hand-worked details give each piece a sculptural quality that reads especially well on the wall. This example comes from a carefully curated private collection of Mexican folk devotional works. Several related nicho shrines in varying sizes and materials are currently available in my shop and can be especially striking when displayed together as a group. Set within a hand-formed black tin frame with a peaked pediment and pierced detailing. The frame contains a shallow hollow behind the image, consistent with nicho-style construction, and gives the piece depth without heaviness. Details Mexico, mid-20th century Black tin nicho-style wall shrine Mixed media collage with sequins, fabric, and metallic trim Approx. 10.5” W × 14” H × 2” D Very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and handcraft.
