Chairish

$2,100

"Mexican Woman" Mid-Century Modern painting by American/German artist Ake Tugel. Oil on masonite. Painted with palette knife. Dated 1959 and signed with monogram lower right. Unframed. The following is from Jodie Tugel, daughter of the artist: Ake Tugel (1925-2002) was born in Berlin, Germany on February 25, 1925 and was raised in Stockholm, Sweden, where he spent many years of school and art. His father before him was a well known artist by the name of Otto Tetjus Tugel, who was also a German book writer.. Ake is known for his oil and water colors and mostly used a palette knife. He created abstract paintings, many of which are in my possession. His paintings were also mostly done in Mexico where he lived for a few years. Other than being a painter, he was also a woods craftsman. He could take any piece of wood and make the best furniture for anyone. He started his wood shop in Sea Cliff, Long Island and then moved to Accord, New York to continue his love of art and building. He has had many Art exhibitions including in California, Mexico and in Spearfish, North Dakota.
