Vietnamese-born French artist Hoi Lebadang, also known simply as “Hoi,” emigrated to France in 1939 and later studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse. By the 1950s, his work had gained recognition in Paris for its synthesis of Eastern and Western artistic traditions, and he would go on to exhibit internationally, including at the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1966. Lebadang became especially celebrated for his expressive printmaking, favoring lithography, etching, and serigraphy alongside his highly textured mixed-media paintings.
