His ability to combine aspects of Cubism, Impressionism, and Fauvism into his own unique artistic style has set him apart as an artist. His ability to combine disciplines also played a significant role in shaping the history of French art and modern art around the world during the twentieth century. His paintings were such a success that his art career took off instantly. By 1948, he had gained a substantial international following and was exhibiting art across the globe. His use of brushstrokes harkened back to Impressionism, while his use of bold colors was considered a Fauvist influence. He was also very influenced by Picasso and Braque and incorporated the Cubist use of multiple perspectives on a single canvas.
