Mid 20th Century Oil On Board “Still Life - Chesapeake Bay Fishing” By Artist Marie Clare Wehle, Framed

Chairish

$325

Mid 20th Century Oil on Board “Still Life - Chesapeake Bay Fishing” by Artist Marie Clare Wehle. This bright and colorful painting was done by the Reston, Virginia painter in 1979. The Still Life scene shows a Rock Fish lying on top of a Skate Fish both commonly found in the Chesapeake Bay. To the left are two white Fishing Baskets. On the right is a yellow tarp. Sunlight is shining through the holes in the baskets which casts a design on the fish. I imagine the fish, baskets and tarp are on the deck flooring of the boat. The sun is starting to set in the West and the boat is returning to its marina after a day of fishing. The Painting is in Very Good condition with vibrant colors of blues, yellows, browns, blacks, grays, and whites. The paper backing has been torn in several places. On the back near the left top corner is a card that shows the Artist Mary Clare Wehle painted the piece in 1979. I was told by the seller that she was from a prominent family in Reston, Virginia. Near the bottom right corner is a sticker from the custom framer “M & M Custom Framers, 7718 Wisconsin Ave. Bethesda MD”. This painting would enhance a Mid Century Modern, Coastal, Beach, or Shabby Chic decor! The Framed Painting measures 33” Tall x 27” Wide x 1 1/8” Deep. It weighs 2 pounds 11.9 ounces or 44.27 ounces or 1256 grams.
