Bold black calligraphic linework defines the geometric blocks of the buildings and small windows. Gino Hollander (born Eugene F. Hollander) lived a remarkably adventurous life. Before dedicating himself to painting in 1960, he served as a World War II ski trooper and worked as an award-winning documentary filmmaker. He became a prominent figure in the New York Abstract Expressionist movement, frequently mingling with legendary artists at Greenwich Village’s famous Cedar Tavern. Hollander was among the early pioneers to experiment extensively with emerging acrylic formulas. His art quickly caught the attention of prominent 20th-century figures, and his works were collected by icons such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Steve McQueen, Norman Rockwell, Ralph Lauren and now, perhaps, you.
