Beatiful tonal original oil on canvas by listed California Artist Zella G. Knox Woolm. Zella G. Knox Woolm (1876-1973) was born in Iowa on March 7, 1876. Zella moved to southern California with her family at an early age and settled in Eagle Rock. She began painting in the 1880s and remained self-taught. She married John Woolm in the 1890s and settled in Glendale where she soon became active in the local art scene. She died there on Feb. 21, 1973. The California coast was her favorite painting subject. Source: Edan Hughes, author of the book "Artists in California, 1786-1940" Census; Death Record. Member: Pasadena Society of Artists; California Art Club. This oil on canvas is signed Zella Woolm, as shown. I purchased this directly from the family of the artist. I have never had this item cleaned, and although it needs it---the painting shows well. The frame is original and it shows its wear and tear, but it is sturdy. It complements the subject nicely. This is a very nice old painting. The frame measures 22.625 inches by 29.375 inches.
