That is an incredible find that I purchased at least 25 years back! The signature reads Wm. J. Monaghan '77 (William J. Monaghan), painted in 1977. The Taos art scene has a rich history of nocturnal and desert landscape masterpieces. Painters like Bert G. Phillips and Oscar Berninghaus famously defined the look of "Taos Nights" with deep, dramatic blues, rich shadows, and luminous moonlight. The '77 matches the mid-to-late 20th-century wave of regional artists flocking to New Mexico. Notice the heavy canvas weave and age-appropriate surface cracking (craquelure) on the right side. Please note the condition is professionally updated with a new linen mat and the back restored. Dimensions Height: 23.5" Length: 20" Depth: 2"
