Gorgeous mid century floral still life of a bouquet of Irises painted in 1959 by Pacific Grove and Santa Cruz, California artist Alvira Powell (American, 20th Century). Signed and dated "Alvira Powell 1959" lower right. Unframed. Image 20"H x 16"W. A Bakersfield resident of nearly 50 years, Alvira Powell was born in Anderson Indiana in 1888. She came to California and San Francisco in 1915 and moved to Bakersfield about 1922. She left Bakersfield in 1970 and moved to Pacific Grove, where she resided until moving to Santa Cruz in 1973. Mrs. Powell was a member of Bakersfield Woman's Club, Business and Professional Woman's Club, and the Bakersfield Art Association. Her home in Santa Cruz was on West Cliff Drive overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
