This Lithograph is an Artist's Proof and a member of Agam's "Swirls" series exploring movement and overlapping lines and color relationships. The energy is fresh and grand at a reserved scale, the balance and play of structural relationships and forms is lively yet calculated, the detail emerging from a self contained spiral movement that opens elegantly at the outermost swoop to the left side of the composition. The son of an orthodox rabbi, Agam began his training as an artist in Jerusalem, going on to combine a formalist approach with cabalistic mysticism. Agam’s best known series of works, comprised of painted strips that seem to shift as viewers alter their points of view became known as Agamographs.
