Modernist Boats - Abstract Monterey Seascape in Oil on Canvas Vibrant abstracted landscape of colorful boats in a Monterey harbor by California artist Virginia Sevier Rogers (American, 1917-2015), 1996. Several boats are in a harbor, depicted in a minimal geometric style, with bright colors. The land and the water a similar shades of blue, creating an expansive space. Signed and dated "V.R. 3/96" upper right. Titled on verso Unframed. Canvas size: 18"H x 24"W. Rogers was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. She studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934, then earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina and an M.A. at UC Berkeley. While in Berkeley, Rogers pursued her art career and in 1971 moved to the Monterey Peninsula. Member Society of Western Artists, Artists Equity.
