Black American folk artist and war veteran, Cedric Orange Senior original monarch butterfly mixed media painting on canvas titled "Freedom to Fly". The piece has a lovely encaustic layer matte finish (beeswax). ABOUT CEDRIC: Cedric is a transplant from Texas to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 70s. After high school, he joined the Army and attended Monterey Peninsula College. He later graduated from Park University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. During and after military service, Cedric was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety because of his 90-91Gulf War experiences. After a 20-year career, Cedric was introduced to Art Therapy as part of his healing process. Art has shown Cedric how to enjoy painting. landscapes, portraits, and abstracts. His favorite medium to paint on is canvas, birch, and masonite wood Using his inner creativity he learned a deeper appreciation of vibrant colors and created new colors, no yet discovered, through blending, using linseed oil, and other mediums. Cedric has shown his work at the Jepson Art Museum in Savannah, Georgia and at various county buildings throughout Beaufort, South Carolina. He was also part of the "Black Artist on Art" exhibition at the Crocker Museum in 2022. Cedric currently lives in Sacramento and is active with the art community, veteran organizations, and various meditation groups.
