Morandi, Still Life With Drapery, 1957, Lithograph

Chairish

$210

Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964), “Il Poggio al Mattino” (Poggio in the Morning). Lithograph printed by Ars Italiae, conceived 1927 and printed 1957 under the artist’s supervision after Morandi’s original etching. Sheet: 392 × 287 mm; image: 279 × 218 mm. Printed on laid paper and preserved in the original folder. From a limited edition of 1,000, this example no. 107. The work depicts one of Morandi’s most characteristic landscapes and belongs to an important 1950s project to reproduce the artist’s highly sought-after etchings—many surviving in only a few impressions—through carefully produced lithographic editions. The process involved Morandi, a curator, the publisher, and several printing houses, and took several years to complete. The resulting prints faithfully reproduce the scale, detail, and aesthetic qualities of the original etchings. The edition was completed January 21, 1957, as noted in the colophon. Each print was issued in a refined laid paper folder listing the plate number, title, year of the original etching, image size, and technical details. Condition: excellent. The lithograph remains well preserved inside its original folder, which shows only minor signs of handling. The print can easily be removed for framing. Sale includes the 1957 lithograph and original folder (colophon not included). This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
