Memorial to Mrs. Rhoda Darling Providence County, Rhode Island, circa 1843 The monument is inscribed "In Memory of Mrs. Rhoda Darling / Wife of Levi Cook Esq. who Died April 8th 1843, in the 67th year of her age." unsigned Medium: Pen and ink on paper Measurements: sight 17 1/4 x 21 1/4 in. framed 19 3/4 x 23 3/4 in. Provenance: Bonhams Skinner Important American Folk Art. A private collection of American Folk Art belonging to a Massachusetts couple. Footnotes: Rhoda Darling (1776-1843) was born in Bellingham, Massachusetts, and married Levi Cook (1773-1857) of Cumberland, Rhode Island, on 5 October 1797. The inscription in the painting is identical to that on Rhoda's tombstone in Elder Ballou Meeting House Cemetery, Cumberland.
