Signed lower left 'Ginghofer' for Raymond Ginghofer (American, 1934-2023) and painted circa 1975. A substantial monotype and gouache figural showing a woman reclining on her stomach rendered in shades of ivory, coral and buff and contrasted against a background of coral and sanguine. Raymond Ginghofer first attended the California School of Fine Arts (later the San Francisco Art Institute) in the late 1950's where he studied under Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bischoff, and Nathan Olivera. In the 1970's, he finished his BA at UC Santa Cruz and subsequently earned an MFA at San Jose State. Ray met Jill Jeffery in 1960, in San Francisco, the start of a life-long love affair. In 1965, they married and moved to Europe, living first on the island of Syme in Greece then in Chelsea, London, where they had their first child, Faline. In 1970, the family moved to Santa Cruz, California, where twins, Andreas and Chandra, were born. Over the course of a long career, Ginghofer exhibited internationally with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards.
