In Japanese mythology, the Seven Lucky Gods or Gods of Fortune (七福神, shichifukujin in Japanese) are believed to bring good luck and are often represented in netsuke and in artworks. Here we have 2 of them that are beautifully presented, and that would make someone an ideal gift or decorative wall hangings. Daikokuten - originally, he was a Hindu warrior deity named Mahākāla and once introduced in Japan he became the God of Wealth and Prosperity Hotei (or Hotei-osho) - is also originally from China, Hotei represents thrift and philanthropy, as well as contentment. A rather unkempt looking Buddhist monk with a big belly and always chuckling. He is perhaps the happiest looking of the seven gods and lives up to his Chinese nickname as the 'Laughing Buddha'. Expensively framed in beautiful deep black shadow boxes made of wood, lined with as far as we can tell (through the glass) in raw slub silk.
