The old pier at Camp Helen State Park has a rich history – between 1945 and 1987 Camp Helen was a company resort for the employees of an Alabama textile mill, known as Avondale Mills. The ruins of the pier are now slowly disintegrating into the Gulf of Mexico, the dark wood contrasting to the bright white sand of the Emerald Coast.
