One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Original Vintage Movie Poster, Czech, 1978

Chairish

$666

A fantastically bizarre poster by Jan Weber for the first Czech release of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Although Western films were shown during the Soviet era in the Communist Bloc, American publicity materials were banned, allowing the state-commissioned artists to operate with total creative freedom from the demands of the big Hollywood studios, offering quirky and sometimes surreal interpretations which often had little reference to the film. Weber's intense halftone design featuring a triplicate of manic Jack Nicholson faces is presumably a nod to insanity and multiple personality disorders. Based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Ken Kesey, co-produced by Michael Douglas and directed by Czech-born filmmaker Milos Foreman, the film starred Nicholson as a prisoner feigning insanity at a mental institution in an attempt to avoid prison labour, and Louise Fletcher as the tyrannical nurse that the rebellious Nicholson rallies his fellow patients against. Considered one of the greatest films ever made, it was only the second picture to win the big five major Academy Awards (Best Picture, Actor in Lead Role, Actress in Lead Role, Director and Screenplay). Unfolded, not backed. Minor nicks and creases to corners and edges with 2 small tears to lower left edge (largest 0.5in.) and a 1in. diagonal tear to right edge. A few scattered creases to lower title portion. Unframed. Will be shipped rolled.
