Original john k thurston (1865-1955) 'gloucester harbor' watercolor painting this is just a great original piece. I have seen a few john k thurston paintings over the last decade or so and when you look at the auction records, there are a fair amount that have come to market. With that in mind, it always amazes me that there is not a thorough biography about the artist. In fact, other than his birth and death dates and the fact that he worked along the coast of massachusetts are about all I have been able to find about the artist. This is a wonderful painting of gloucester harbor from some time around the early to mid 20th century. A watercolor and gouache on paper with the image measuring 11 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches. Signed lower left. Painting is in wonderful as painted condition. No signs of fading or any issues at all. Really a beautiful work. Archival french matte and wood frame are complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 17 1/2 x 14 inches.
