There are moments that stay with you long after the sun dips below the horizon—and for me, one of those moments happened at Hendry’s Beach in Santa Barbara. Known officially as Arroyo Burro Beach, but affectionately called Hendry’s by locals, it’s a beloved stretch of coastline nestled beneath sandstone cliffs. It’s a place where families gather, and the light—transforms everything it touches. I’ve walked this beach countless times, often just before dusk, watching the sky shift from gold to rose to deep violet. In the distance, you might spot the outline of the Boathouse, the beachfront restaurant where diners toast to the day with glasses raised toward the glowing sky. It’s a Santa Barbara favorite, where the views are just as rich as the food. Hendry’s Beach holds a special place in many hearts, and through this work, I hope to share a piece of that magic.
