Chairish

$1,366

Hand monogrammed and numbered in pencil. Original title: ''Sopra l'Insolito''. Original etching realized by Chia in 1979. Very good conditions. Sandro Chia Alessandro Chia, best known as Sandro, was born in Florence, in 1946 and is considered one of the more representative figures of the contemporary Italian Transavanguadia movement. Growing up he was exposed to a very heterogenic artistic background, achieving his diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence in 1969 where he was introduced to major New-Vanguard movements of Europe and America. Following his studies Chia travels to Asia and then moves to Rome for a decade where he hosts his first exhibits. By the end of the ‘70s he becomes interested in figurative art and therefore will fit naturally and automatically within the Italian Transavanguardia movement, of which he will be a true protagonist. After living in Rome he will spend the good part of two decades in New York City before returning partially to Montalcino, near Siena. In 1983 his work was exhibited at the Castle of Rivoli and the Solomon R. Guggenheim di New York, in 1984 and 1989 at Venice Biennial, in 1984 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and in 1995 to Villa the Medical of Rome. Since the beginning of its activity Chia has operated according to a poetics and a style that orients towards ''a wild'' life, which ignited classic monumentality using strong colours. He is best known as a painter and sculptor.
