Pa German Fraktur Taufschein Watercolor & Ink Birth/baptismal Certificate C1857

Chairish

$750

A mid-19th century Pennsylvania German Fraktur, this hand-colored birth and baptismal certificate ('Geburts- und Tauf-Schein') is a fine piece of American folk art. The document was printed by the firm of Blumer and Leisenring in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a notable producer of such works, and is executed in ink and watercolor on paper. It records the birth of Geri Enn Kebock on October 17, 1857, in Washington, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, to parents Conrno Kebock and Susianna (née Schollen). The certificate further notes her baptism on November 29, 1857. The central text is surrounded by classic Pennsylvania German folk art motifs, including a prominent spread-winged eagle and two flanking angels with vibrant red wings. The lower portion features four colorful birds perched on branches. The entire document, including several devotional verses, is written in German. This piece is a wonderful representation of Pennsylvania German cultural and artistic heritage, presented within a simple wooden frame. Measures - 18.75"H x 15.75"W x 1"D
