A rare and historically documented pair of antique engravings depicting Roman architectural subjects, drawn by the significant French painter François-Marius Granet (Aix-en-Provence, 1775–1849) and engraved by Reinaud in 1812. The first print, "Porte St. Sebastien à Rome," bears the inscriptions "Granet delin. pour M. Alex. de Parade" and "M. Reinaud sculp. an 1812." The second Roman scene bears "Granet del." and "M. Reinaud sculp." with the dedication "Du Cabinet de M. le Chevalier Alexandre de Lestang-Parade" — the documented patron and protector of Granet, based in Aix-en-Provence. Granet spent nearly two decades in Rome (1802–1819) producing the architectural studies for which he became celebrated. He studied under Jacques-Louis David, exhibited extensively at the Paris Salon, and his work is held in the Louvre and the National Gallery in London. The Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence bears his name. These prints were made at the height of Granet's Roman period, dedicated to his patron, from whose personal collection they originate. Both are presented in original pine frames. Visible image area approximately 7.5 x 6.25 inches; framed 9.75 x 8.5 inches.
