This is a set of antique engravings by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1702-88), a French naturalist, depicting playful monkeys in a natural setting. The intricate details and vibrant hues from early 19th century hand coloring bring these fabulous creatures to life. The engraving plates measure 6 1/4" tall x 4" wide. They are beautifully and professionally displayed, under glass, in dark wood frames with gold trim. Frames measure 16" tall x 13" wide. Ready to hang.
